Canada continues to promote the place of the French language in the digital space to provide Francophones and Francophiles around the world with the opportunity to access online content in French that reflects Francophone diversity.

The President of the Treasury Board, the Honourable Mona Fortier, today announced on behalf of the Honourable Melanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, an additional Canadian contribution of $200,000 to the Francophonie TV5MONDEplus Fund to support the creation, production and dissemination of cultural content from Francophone countries in the South.

An initiative created by Canada with a $500,000 contribution in 2021, the Francophonie TV5MONDEplus Fund ensures greater diversity of French-language content online.

TV5MONDEplus provides an impressive digital showcase of the great talents of French-speaking artists, artisans and creators. It is critical that Canadians have access to cultural content from as many French-speaking countries as possible and that our communities, from coast to coast, are heard throughout the world.

The presence of diverse content online supports the values at the very foundation of La Francophonie, particularly democracy and respect for human rights-values that we must more than ever before promote and affirm by all means and in all possible forums.
